Biographical Data

With an honours B.A. in Slavonic Studies (UBC) and an M.A. in Russian linguistics (Simon Fraser), John Woodsworth has been a translator (mainly Russian-English, but also from French, German, Polish and Ukrainian and occasionally English-Russian) for more than 40 years. Since 1982 he has been with the University of Ottawa, first teaching Russian language and translation courses and currently as Administrative Assistant & Research Associate with its Slavic Research Group under Tolstoy expert Andrew Donskov. JW specialises in poetry translation, with more than 120 poem translations published (print/Internet), along with more than 80 publications of his original poetry in Russian. He has edited or compiled 8 books and translated 23, including all nine volumes of the popular Ringing Cedars Series by contemporary Siberian author Vladimir Megré, as well as books by Mikhail Sadovsky, Faina Blagodarova and Mikhail Levitin.
